California Day of Empathy

Dear Friends,

We invite you to join us for the The Empathy Retreat, with #cut50 and Healing Dialogue and Action in Sacramento, California on February 28th and March 1st, 2017.

This invitation-only event will bring together people with personal experience of crime and the justice system to spend a day building relationships, learning about system-change, and creating opportunities for healing, and then join with others on the second day for advocacy at the capitol.

On February 28th, we’ll meet at a beautiful retreat center outside of Sacramento. Lodging and food will be covered, and the peaceful setting will enhance the opportunity to learn, grow, and heal together. The next day, March 1st, we will join many other supporters near the State Capitol building, and spend the morning training together for legislative visits. In the afternoon, we’ll march to the Capitol and meet in special teams with state legislators. By the time you sit down to meet with a senator or assembly member, you will be well-prepared and surrounded by a supportive team.

We’ll describe to policy-makers the power of compassion and our shared interest in criminal justice reforms that keep communities safe and families together. You will also have the chance to advocate for several important bills, including one that would end the use of life without parole sentences for children.

This is a special opportunity to integrate advocacy and healing. As part of a movement that will ripple across the nation on March 1st, we will share our personal experiences and discuss important policy changes with elected leaders.

We hope that you will join us in opening hearts and minds to the possibility of redemption, justice, and transformation.
