Maryland Day of Empathy begins with a brief of two pieces of legislation Maryland Justice Project are working on:
A.) Legislation Ambassadors will be addressing with Law Makers the following
1.) Pre-release Services for Woman SB821 & SB419. It is actually two separate bills both addressing the need for a Pre-release Center for Woman.
2.) Ban the Box on employment applications through out the entire state of Maryland HB 0994 Introduced by Delegate Nick Mosby hearing date 3/5/2019. Ban the Box senate hearing 3/15/2-19 Sponsored by Senator Jill Cater. Maryland Justice Project was successful in passing this law on the city level now we aim to make it a state wide law.
B.) Ambassadors will also visit the Women's Caucus its a total of 72 bipartisan members of the Caucus and this particular body play a pivotal role in the passage of our legislation. Also we are seeking to reach across the isle to gain support for both pieces of legislation.
C.) We will are setting up meetings with key legislators to meet with the Ambassadors particularly the Economics subcommittee law makers as we need more support with the Ban the Box bill.
We are aiming to do a press release concerning Day of Empathy and current legislation Maryland Justice Project is working on. Press release will include Senator Jill Carter and Delegate Nick Mosby
