New York Day of Empathy

March 05, 2019 at 12pm - 4pm | Foley Square | Lafayette Street Worth Street Centre St New York, NY 10013 United States | Map and directions ›

The name of the NY event is FREEDOM'S GATEWAY to NEVER BE CAGED. The goal is to examine the intersection of substance abuse and mass incarceration, how it has impacted the Black/Brown community and communities experiencing poverty. More importantly, we will identify how we heal and galvanize to arrive back to our original history of royalty and peaceful existence beyond our interrupted history of slavery in this country. Also, how to ignite responsible prosecutor practices that save lives and not destroy them. When faced with the decision to send someone to prison, what would it look like to explore the individuals life and make recommendations based on needs steeped in compassion. Practices of this nature would drastically reduce mass incarceration, allow for young people to have interventions that actually worked and would restore dignity.

Participating Organizations: I Am My Community, Guns Down Life Up, Black Spades, Creative Soul Solutions, NYC Mayor's Office, Mamma's Hip Hop Kitchen, Neighborhood Benches, Artist Up, Refoundry, Never Be Caged, Styled By Miracle, National Action Network, The Black Institute, Silent Cry, Peer Network, Peacemakers, Bronx Progressives, PLC, Halimah's Healing Space, Northwest Bronx Clergy Coalition, Citizens Action, Mindset 4 Life, Black Lives Matter Greater NY, North Central Bronx Hospital, CASA
